Planning Department


The Planning Department serves several functions:

  • Provides technical assistance to local municipalities in land use regulations, economic development, and environmental protection.
  • Provides staff assistance to: 
    • the Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board - Advises the Livingston County Board of Supervisors on agricultural issues, and is tasked with overseeing the Agricultural Districts and implementing the Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan.
    • the Conesus Lake Watershed Council - Oversees and implements the Conesus Lake Watershed Management Plan.
    • the County Planning Board - Reviews and provides advisory comments on municipal Site Plans, Special Use Permits, Subdivisions, Variances, Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Ordinance, Local Laws and Moratoria.
    • the Environmental Management Council - Advises the Board of Supervisors on matters affecting the quality of the environment in Livingston County.
    • the Transportation Advisory Committee - A multi-disciplinary group charged with developing and overseeing mobility management functions and administering UPWP projects in Livingston County.
    • Livingston County Land Bank - A not-for-profit corporation which facilitates the return of vacant, abandoned, underutilized, and tax-delinquent properties to productive use.
    • Light Up Livingston - Working to provide access to high-speed, fiber-optic internet to every address in Livingston County.
    • Livingston County Housing Task Force - Tasked with reducing barriers to providing a range of housing options in Livingston County, through education, effective policy and targeted programs.
  • Provides GIS mapping services, research, and analytical capabilities to assist the Board of Supervisors, County Administrator and other county departments.
  • Grant Administration for County Towns, Villages and other initiatives.
  • Capital Improvement Planning
  • Provides land use training opportunities to local Planning Board and Zoning Board members through the Livingston County "LET'S Plan!" Training Program.
