Victim/Witness Assistance Program
Being a victim of or witness to a crime can be an overwhelming and stressful experience, often leaving individuals feeling uncertain, vulnerable, and unsure of what to expect next. The Livingston County Victim/Witness Assistance Program, housed within the District Attorney’s Office, is dedicated to ensuring that victims and witnesses are supported throughout the criminal justice process. Our program is committed to ensuring that every victim is treated with compassion, dignity, and respect, and that their voices are heard and valued.
Services: The Victim/Witness Assistance Program provides a wide range of services to victims and witnesses of crime including, but not limited to the following:
- Emotional support, safety planning
- Referrals to community resources
- Assistance preparing for court appearances or testimony.
- Acts as a liaison between the victim/witness and the prosecutor assigned to the case.
- Assistance with filing for crime victim compensation through New York State Office of Victims Services.
- Information and updates regarding criminal case.
- Information and guidance regarding the criminal justice process.

DOCCS Office of Victim Assistance - Request for Victim Notification for State Inmates: Complete the online application to receive notifications on sentenced inmates including release dates, change in status, upcoming parole interview dates and victim impact statement options.
RESTORE - Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention and Support: Restore provides free confidential crisis intervention support to survivors of sexual assault and their significant others with 24-hour hotlines available.
Chances & Changes, Inc. - Domestic Violence Program (TEMPORARILY CLOSED): Non-for-profit organization serving victims of Domestic Violence with 24-hour hotline available.
CASA Trinity - Substance Abuse Support: Assists substance use disorders and counseling.
The Child Advocacy Center of Greater Rochester: Use this website for helpful information including knowing the signs, intervention, prevention and more on child abuse.
New York Crime Victims Legal Help: Online victim resource that provides legal help on issues of housing, family, employment, finances and more.
NYS Office of Victim Services: Assists victims with compensation, advocacy, support, education and outreach across New York State.
