Home Posted on May 05, 2025

GENESEO, N.Y., May 5, 2025 In celebration of Public Service Recognition Week, Livingston County proudly honors the hard work, dedication, and commitment of its employees and the many other individuals who serve their communities every day through public service.

Celebrated each year in May, Public Service Recognition Week applauds those who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees. Throughout the country, mayors, governors, administrators, board members, agency leaders, communities and public service organizations work diligently toward improving their citizens’ quality of life by building and implementing impactful initiatives and programming, spreading awareness of events and projects, revitalizing downtown areas and stimulating local economies, spurring tourism, economic development, and more.

In Livingston County, public employees across every department play an essential role in maintaining the quality of life that residents enjoy. From ensuring public safety and protecting health and well-being to maintaining infrastructure and protecting the environment, Livingston County’s employees work tirelessly to enhance the lives of residents each and every day.

“Our employees are the backbone of Livingston County government,” said Board Chair David LeFeber. “Their efforts, often done behind the scenes, are what keep our community safe, supported and thriving. We are grateful for their passion and commitment to making a difference in the lives of our residents.”

Livingston County employees, and the programs and services they help to administer, are frequently recognized for their accomplishments and innovation on local, regional and national levels. The Government Finance Officers Association recently awarded Livingston County with the 2025 Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, illustrating the County’s commitment to meeting the highest standards of governmental budgeting. The County’s Fire Training Tower project earned American City and County’s Crown Communities Award earlier this year, one of just six projects to receive the distinction nationally.

In April, the County honored its employees for their service with annual Employee Appreciation Celebrations at its campuses in Geneseo, Mount Morris, and Hampton Corners. County officials were on hand to pass out gift bags and thank employees for their outstanding work and dedication. The County will hold its annual Employee Recognition Ceremony in June, recognizing longtime members of its workforce for their 10 and 25 years of public service during a meeting of the board of supervisors.

Today, there are more than 20 million public sector employees in the United States, making it one of the country’s largest employment sectors. Employees at the local government level make up the largest segment of public sector employment. Livingston County’s workforce is currently comprised of more than 1,000 committed public servants across nearly 40 departments.
