Board of Supervisors Honors Malone as Veteran of the Month

GENESEO, N.Y., June 26, 2024 — The Livingston County Board of Supervisors today recognized former Army Specialist Michael Joseph Malone Jr. as the County’s Veteran of the Month during its bi-monthly meeting. 

 

Malone was born in Dansville, N.Y., and is a graduate of The Aquinas Institute of Rochester. He participated in the military delayed entry program from December 7, 1987 to August 8, 1988, before entering active duty in the United States Army on August 9, 1988, where he served honorably until his discharge on August 8, 1992.

 

Malone attended basic training and 95 Bravo or Military Police Academy Training, at Fort McClellan, Alabama. His duty assignment was the 92nd Military Police Company, United States Army Europe in Darmstadt, Germany. While stationed in Germany, he deployed to Southwest Asia from December 29, 1990 to May 18, 1991, in support of the Gulf War. After deployment, he returned to Germany until his discharge from active duty.

 

For his military service, Malone received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, and Kuwaiti Liberation Medal. In addition, he received the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Grenade Badge, Sharpshooter Marksmanship Pistol Badge, Expert Marksmanship Rifle Badge, and German Marksmanship Badge. 

 

Upon completion of his military service, Malone lived in Washington State until his return home in 1995 when he started working with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office. In July of 1996, he transferred to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office where he continues to serve. Malone was also recognized for his 25 years of service to the County during an employee appreciation ceremony also at today’s Board of Supervisors meeting. 

 

As a Sergeant of the County Sheriff’s jail division, he also serves on the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard, Motorcycle Unit, Firearms Instructor, and Academies Instructor within the jail division. His hobbies include motorcycles, hunting, fishing, and bowling. He resides in Dansville with his wife Cassie and their three children.
