Additional housing initiatives available from the Department of Social Services include:
Family Centered Services Plan - Livingston County DSS applied for this new plan on 9/5/24 and received approval on 9/13/24 with an annual allocation amount of $165,327. This plan provides intensive case management to Family households with children who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Catholic Charities is administering the program in collaboration with DSS, targeting 20-25 households annually. The plan focuses on financial literacy, educational supports, parenting services, and mental health/substance abuse treatment to reduce emergency housing stays and promote long-term housing stability. Presently 5 families are actively involved with receiving services through this plan.
Shelter Supplement Plan – this plan will provide eligible Safety Net recipients (Single Adults) with a rent allowance of up to $800 per month starting in 2025. This plan was recently initiated with one recipient application to date.
Rental Supplement Program – Livingston County DSS receives an annual allocation amount of $190,065 for the Rental Supplement Plan. 20 recipients are presently in receipt of this funding.
SAEF Plan – Funded by a $27,418 OTDA allocation, this plan assists households with shelter arrears to prevent evictions. Eligibility requirements include applying for other assistance programs first, meeting Temporary Assistance citizenship/non-citizen status requirements, and meeting income guidelines. Presently 2 recipients have applied for this funding with a total of 9,285 having been provided to date.
