Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan Update (2026)
The Livingston County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board (AFPB) has undertaken the initiative to update the county’s Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan. The Planning Department secured a NYS Ag and Markets grant that, coupled with county funding, will update the 2006 plan. The AFPB issued a request for proposals in May of 2025 selected ACDS, LLC to complete the plan.
- The plan will capture the baseline of Agriculture in Livingston County, using agricultural statistics and market analysis tools.
- The plan will evaluate local agricultural viability, with analyses of;
- local markets and agricultural trends
- challenges facing farm operations
- farmland ownership trends & tax impacts
- housing & agricultural infrastructure,
- prime soils protection strategies
- farm succession and farmland protection prioritization strategies,
- impacts of renewable energy and many other issues facing Livingston County farmers.
- ACDS has engaged in multiple forms of outreach to tune in to the individual issues facing farm operations including:
- In person and phone interviews
- Farmer focus groups
- Online surveys
- The final plan will create a framework of fact-based recommendations, that the AFPB can rely on to help guide discission making, shape future programs that further Agricultural and Farmland protection efforts in Livingston County.
