State Health Department Releases Quarterly Opioid Report

Home Posted on November 17, 2025

MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y., Nov. 17, 2025 Opioid related deaths in Livingston County remain below the statewide average, according to the latest quarterly statewide opioid data from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).

In 2024, the latest data available, Livingston County reported six overdose deaths involving opioids. This continues a downward trend from a high of 12 in 2022, and 11 in 2023. Overdoses involving synthetic opioids, other than methadone, were also at six for 2024. In addition, naloxone administered in Livingston County was recorded at 21 for the same year.

The NYSDOH provides quarterly reports on opioid-related overdoses, emergency department visits, and hospitalizations by county, following the recommendations of the New York State Heroin and Opioid Task Force. The data helps counties identify local trends, allocate resources, and plan targeted prevention and harm-reduction efforts more effectively, said Livingston County Public Health Director Jennifer Rodriguez.

“These numbers reflect the hard work of our local health partners — from first responders to treatment, mental health and public health providers — who are on the front lines of this fight every day,” she said. “We’re encouraged to see opioid-related deaths trending in the right direction, but even one is too many. We’ll use this data to help us improve and focus our prevention and outreach efforts moving forward.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), opioid use has grown consistently over the last two decades, resulting in increased hospitalizations, addiction and overdose deaths. Approximately 105,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in the United States in 2023, with nearly 80,000 of those deaths involving opioids.

The state’s quarterly report is available to the public through the New York State Department of Health’s website. It provides detailed information on overdose rates, hospitalizations, historical trends and more for each county in New York along with statewide statistics.
