Livingston County Welcomes New Director of Community Services

Home Posted on August 11, 2025

GENESEO, N.Y., Aug. 11, 2025 The Livingston County Community Services Board has named Sarah McCumiskey as the County’s director of community services, overseeing mental health, substance use, and developmental disability services across the County.

McCumiskey brings more than two decades of experience in the mental health field to her new role, including work as a licensed mental health counselor for the last 15 years. She most recently served as an addiction therapist supervisor with Rochester Regional Health’s inpatient addiction services program. In that role, she led a multidisciplinary team of addiction therapists and behavioral health technicians, implemented program enhancements, improved patient satisfaction scores, and collaborated with senior leadership on operational and strategic initiatives.

“The opportunity to transition from impacting individuals directly to influencing systemic improvements that benefit the entire community has been a strong motivator in my decision to take on this role,” said McCumiskey. “Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to have a variety of experiences working with individuals seeking mental health services and support. The director of community services role offers a chance to translate my direct service experience and leadership skills into broader strategies to collaboratively create a seamless, supportive system for all.”

McCumiskey holds master’s degrees in mental health counseling and management and leadership from Medaille College and Keuka College, respectively.

Her priorities as director of community services include strengthening relationships with community members and stakeholders, expanding local outreach efforts, leveraging digital tools like the CredibleMind mental health and wellbeing support platform, and implementing a “no wrong door” approach to allow residents to access mental health, substance use, and developmental disability services regardless of their entry point into the system.

The new position marks McCumiskey’s return to the County, having formerly served with community services as a mental health therapist.

“From working here previously, I already knew of the great network of therapists, providers, and supports in this community,” she explained. “My vision going forward is to ensure that services are accessible, responsive, and rooted in us meeting the community members where they need us. I am looking forward to meeting and collaborating with community members and stakeholders to foster strong, trusting relationships, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued so as to best meet the needs of the community.”

Outside of work, McCumiskey enjoys spending time with family and friends, summer campfires, reading, working out, and cheering on her favorite team, the Boston Red Sox.
