Livingston County Highway Department 2025 Projects

Home Posted on June 11, 2025

MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y., June 11, 2025 The Livingston County Highway Department is working on a number of road and bridge improvement projects throughout the County for the 2025 construction season. This year’s work includes 18.5 miles of road rehabilitation and 32 miles of chip seal surface treatments, with projects spanning from Conesus to Nunda.

The 2025 construction schedule includes several major projects, such as the full-depth recycling of Begole Road in Mount Morris, final paving on Linwood and Walker Roads in York, and hot-in-place recycling on four miles of Presbyterian Road in West Sparta. Additionally, Stagecoach Road in Conesus and Sparta is slated for a full mill and paver over.

“I’d like to remind residents to stay alert and use caution when driving through work zones this summer,” said Superintendent of Highways Jason Wolfanger. “These investments in our bridges and roadways are important, but so is the safety of the men and women making it happen. Please slow down when entering work zones and help us make sure everyone gets home safe at the end of the day.”

The Highway Department will also continue its preventative maintenance program with chip seal applications on stretches of Long Point Road in Geneseo, Carney Hollow Road in Springwater, and River Road in Leicester.

In addition to roadwork, the County is also prioritizing several bridge and culvert replacements. Carney Hollow Road is set for a culvert replacement, while maintenance and rehabilitation work will begin on other local structures including the White Bridge Road bridge connecting Sparta and West Sparta, and the Gibson Street bridge in North Dansville.

All roadway projects are funded through the 2025 Highway Department budget, which includes a mix of local and state funding. The construction will be funded with $1,615,000 from Livingston County and more than $3.6 million in total funding from several New York State programs, including $2,367,549.71 from the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program or CHIPS, $344,997.46 from the Extreme Winter Recovery Program, $562,565.50 from the PAVE-NY Initiative, and $375,043.67 from the Operation Pave Our Potholes program.

The department’s upcoming work follows a productive 2024 season, during which crews reconstructed or rehabilitated 17.8 miles of roadway and chip sealed 31.2 miles. Last year’s road work highlights include the $1.2 million rehabilitation of Linwood Road in York and a full-depth recycling of Newville Road in Nunda.
