MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y., Oct. 21, 2024 — To celebrate National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (October 20-26), the Livingston County Department of Health would like to announce a partnership with the Livingston County Habitat for Humanity program to decrease the risk of lead in homes. This collaboration can help residents locate and finance support to remove lead hazards from homes.
This partnership strives to reduce the amount of lead hazards in the county and understand the struggles that come with trying to make safety improvements alongside the normal stressors of life. The partnership began through the shared goal of helping those in need of assistance, formally launching in the summer of 2024. Since the program’s start, four families have begun making safety improvements to their homes.
The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program is now offering free lead testing at the Livingston County Department of Health Clinic. This testing is completed by obtaining a small blood sample from a fingerstick, giving results within three minutes.
To find out if you qualify or if you need free lead testing for your one or two-year-old or child that has not been tested or is due for testing, please call the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program at (585) 243-7299.
