Home Posted on September 25, 2024

GENESEO, N.Y., Sept. 25, 2024 — The Livingston County Environmental Management Council (EMC) is calling for community volunteers to join the county-appointed body.

The EMC was established by Livingston County in 1979 with the purpose of preserving and protecting the area’s natural and manmade environments. Councilmembers advise the county’s board of supervisors on all local environmental matters and coordinate action on environmental issues among local governments and organizations. The council is seeking to add more members to its ranks to further its mission of local environmental stewardship and oversight.

"We are seeking dedicated individuals who are passionate about preserving and improving our county's environmental quality,” said EMC Chairman Alex Pierce. “This is an excellent opportunity for citizens to contribute their expertise and make an impact on our community's environmental future."

EMC members represent diverse areas of expertise, including:

  • Environmental Education
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Environmental Technology
  • Environmental Action
  • Agriculture
  • General Citizen Interest

Eligible candidates for the EMC should be residents of Livingston County, employed representatives of businesses operating in the county, and/or an individual attending a higher education institution in Livingston County. The EMC encourages all interested parties to apply for a two-year term on the council. The board of supervisors will review applications and make appointments based on candidates' qualifications and areas of expertise.

The council meets at the Livingston County Government Center in Geneseo on the fourth Wednesday of every other month. Their next meeting is today, September 25, 2024, at 6:30 p.m.
