Livingston County Dept. of Health to Host Citizen Emergency Preparedness Class

Home Posted on September 05, 2024

MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y., Sept. 5, 2024 — The New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps, in conjunction with the Livingston County Health Department, is hosting an upcoming NYS Citizen Preparedness Training event for local residents on Sept. 21, 2024, at 12 p.m. inside the Livingston County Department of Social Services conference center.

The training will equip citizens with the knowledge and resources necessary to effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from various types of emergencies and disasters. It will cover crucial topics such as developing a family emergency plan, stocking up on essential supplies, and will educate residents on the tools and resources needed to prepare for any type of disaster.

"A program like this has intangible benefits for creating community resilience,” said Livingston County Office of Emergency Management Director Andrew Brodell. “When a significant emergency strikes, if citizens are well prepared with food, water, sheltering plans, etc., the more focus can be put on resolving the high priority issues of the emergency itself. Community preparedness absolutely contributes to less chaos and confusion when responding to these situations. We highly recommend families attend these trainings and take the information home to share with family and friends."

The Citizen Preparedness Corps is a statewide initiative led by the New York National Guard in collaboration with experts from the Division's Office of Emergency Management and Office of Fire Prevention and Control. These training sessions are coordinated with local county emergency management personnel and held at various venues across the state each year.

To register for this free training opportunity, visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LCDSS092124. Organizers say space is limited and recommend registering early. Each family that attends will receive a free preparedness kit at the event.
