Name: Gary Nageldinger
Department: Board of Elections
Tell us about what you do with the County: As one of the two Elections Commissioners, we administer or at least play a part in every election in Livingston County. 2024 is a busy year for us, overseeing village elections in March, a Presidential Primary in April, school and library elections in May, State and local primaries in June, and of course the November Presidential election.
What part of your job motivates you the most/makes you happiest? I like talking with folks about how we conduct elections here in Livingston County. There is a lot of mis-information and dis-information coming from every direction concerning elections, so it makes it difficult for the average resident to feel confident about their elections. I like to be as transparent as possible about our election process. I also really like to engage with our school districts, talk with kids, and answer their questions while getting the high school kids registered to vote.
Favorite sports team? I've been a Detroit Lions fan since I was little- this is our year.
Favorite hobby? When I'm not working on my 1967 Camaro - I'm coaching one sport or another. I help with Little League baseball in the summer, help coach Keshequa wrestling in the winter and track in the spring. I am a huge proponent of youth sports.
If you had to bring one movie, one book and one album to a desert island, which ones would you pick? Movie: The Hangover, Book: 5000 Year Leap, Album: Boats, Beaches, Bars & Ballads - Jimmy Buffett (R.I.P Jimmy).
What’s something unique about you people would never guess just by looking at you? I ran D1 track in college, I've finished multiple obstacle races, Tough Mudder and others, huge Jimmy Buffett fan - our family has been to quite a few concerts before his passing.
